History

June 17, 1985 – A special town meeting is held and $15,000 was approved for the formation of a fire department with monies toward an addition to the town garage and the purchase of a 1955 GMC pumper and gear.

 

1986 – Waterford Fire Dept starts taking calls and open house for new station is held Feb 22. Many members take Firefighting Essential class held at Danville station.

 

 

1987 – Replacement of original military tanker by a 1976 Chevrolet chassis and refurbished tank from Barnet Fire Department. 1955 GMC pumper replaced with 19xx “b Model” Mack.

 

1988 – The department is now dispatched by St. Johnsbury Fire department thus reducing our ISO rating. Fire prevention is taught in the school for the first time. Captain Clarence Priest completes upgrade to military jeep for wildland fire fighting.

 

1989 – First fire department auction is held. Beginning of dry hydrant system with RC&D surveying water supplies.


1991- Voters approve purchase of a new pumper to be purchased from E-One. New pumper arrives on Sept 13th. Purchase of a 1982 Kodiak cab and chassis for fabrication of a new tanker.


1992 – Water supply development continues with two additional hydrants installed. Department patch designed. Application sent to the State of Vermont for an emergency access to Interstate 93.


1993 – 1982 Kodiak tanker/pumper put into service. First drafting basin installed.


1994 – Emergency Medical Services started – Rescue 1 placed in service. Emergency access to Interstate 93 constructed.


1995 – Department celebrate 10 yr anniversary and Vermont State Firefighter I certificates to Robert Payeur, Michael Keach, Roger Leroux, Howard Jones, Arthur Wessels and David Brown


1997 – Defibulation units donated by Prudential Life, New England Power, Hitchner Manufacturing


1999 – Town votes to construct new fire station


2000 – New Station is dedicated on departments 15th anniversary

 

2001 – Assistant Chief Michael Keach is promoted to Chief after Robert Payeur resigns after 14 years as chief of department


2002 – Department receives Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for new turnout and wildland gear

Department takes delivery of new Metalfab tanker


Vermont Firefighter I certificates are received by Colin Fucci, David Elwood, Brett Loehr, John Dole, Sarah Dole, Angela Daniels, and William Vinton

 

2003 – Assistant Chief Roger Leroux is promoted to Chief of Department

Department adds Holmatro hydraulic extrication equipment received from Federal Emergency Management Agency grant
